Poem 04
Citrus Moon
Night, peeled open and too bright.
The moon comes up like sliced-open fruit,
too bright, too close, a sweet excess.
The rooftops wear a tangerine suit;
the alleys drink it nonetheless.
You tilt your face. The night is rind
and juice and something almost gold.
A color only dark can find
when all the quieter hours grow old.
